On Wednesday, speaking in Washington, D.C., at the state funeral for his father, former President George H. W. Bush, former President George W. Bush gave a beautiful and heartbreaking eulogy for his dad, breaking down in tears near the conclusion.
Bush started by joking about his father's perennial youth, recalling incidents in his later life, including parachuting out of a plane when he was 90. He segued to his father's World War II experiences as a pilot, including being stranded on a life raft in the Pacific, praying his comrades in arms would find him before the enemy did. He spoke of the tragedy that engulfed his parents when their three-year-old daughter died, and finally concluded with a tribute to his father's decency, sincerity and kindness.
